Michael Bender is chief operating officer of Global eCommerce for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and leads the strategy for and effective execution of the company’s eCommerce operations around the world. Additionally, Michael is responsible for the integration of digital commerce into new and existing formats.

Previously, Michael served as executive vice president and president of the Walmart West business unit of Walmart U.S. and led all aspects of the company’s business in 22 states. He was promoted to the role after serving as senior vice president of the mountain division, where he was responsible for business in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Michael joined Walmart in 2009 as vice president and regional general manager for the West division, where he was responsible for business in Arizona, Nevada and Utah.

From 2003 to 2007, Michael held several executive-level roles at Cardinal Health, Inc., including president/general manager of the retail and alternate care business. Prior to Cardinal Health, Michael served as vice president of store operations for Victoria’s Secret Stores in Columbus, Ohio. Earlier in his career, he spent 14 years at Pepsi-Cola North America, where he held several executive-level positions in strategic planning, finance, operations, sales and marketing.

Michael graduated from Stanford University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He received a master’s of management in finance, marketing and management policy from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in 1988.
